NEW VANCOUVER-MADE PODCAST ‘LIFE ON THE SPECTRUM’ EXPLORES CHALLENGES AND CELEBRATORY MOMENTS WITHIN AUTISM

Broadcaster, Mother, Special Education Assistant shares perspectives and voices from within BC’s autism community

Vancouver, BC (Oct. 16, 2019)

Ask Katie Bennison why she decided to make a podcast covering a wide range of issues within autism, and she has a simple answer for a complex question.

“When one of my daughters was diagnosed 11 years ago, there were so many things we wanted to know and couldn’t find answers for,” the broadcaster and special education assistant explains. “I want to help other people who might feel lost on their autism journey.”

Life on the Spectrum: The Autism Family Podcast takes an in-depth look at autism – what’s involved in getting a diagnosis, innovative approaches to social challenges, and navigating school, funding, and the teen years. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate the ‘superpowers,’ or abilities to focus and think differently, often associated with life on the spectrum.

Part of the goal of this ‘labour of love’ is to publicize the strong community that already exists to help support families dealing with autism. The podcast incorporates family members, experts, and most importantly, the voices of those on the spectrum.

It can be heard on Apple Podcasts/anywhere podcasts are available, and this season is comprised of six episodes.

INTERVIEW AVAILABILITY

Life on the Spectrum host Katie Bennison is available for live interview segments with some advance notice. A seasoned broadcast professional, she is a lively, knowledgeable guest who can speak confidently about many aspects of the autism community.
